Established in 1997, Calypso Flowers has a well-deserved reputation for distinctive and natural floral arrangements, using quality flowers, foliage and accompaniments.
Situated in Burwood Road, Hawthorn, near the Power Street intersection in Hawthorn, the boutique florist has a distinct European feel, which is carried through to the use of colours and designs .
Owner Denise Patience chose the location of the shop partly because of its proximity to the flower markets and wholesalers, which means that the supply of flowers can be replenished each day.
The business owes its name to the demi-goddess in Homer’s THE ODYSSEY. Calypso, daughter of Atlas, lived on an island, in a cave which was sheltered by fragrant trees, covered in luscious grape vines, and surrounded by meadows of irises.
”It was indeed a spot where a mortal visitor must pause to gaze in wonder and delight”.
